Best on the water

Late afternoon on the creek, when the wind drops and the light turns gold.

The coast at a slower pace

Kilifi sits about an hour north of Mombasa, where a deep tidal creek meets the Indian Ocean. It is a relaxed coastal town with a creative community and very few crowds.

The creek is the heart of life here, busy with sailing boats, paddleboards and fishing dhows. Bofa Beach stretches north of town, and the Mnarani Ruins, an old Swahili settlement, look out over the water.
